Thing is, wasn't Suarez heading towards the club before Torres wanted out? Don't think his signing makes one difference if so. Much better to compare Torres and Carroll because if Torres is overpriced at 50 mil, then what does that say about 35 mil for one Andy Carroll?
Besides, Torres did play well actually. He's probably trying a bit too hard and the subs made no different really. Luiz got the freekick which resulted in his goal and Ramires sliced open the defense without anyone elses help. Both players were playing before Torres left the pitch of course. Besides Malouda was fucking awful today. He balled up every ball he had. Torres had better deliverys from the Man City players than Malouda was giving.

Yep, we did exactly the same thing when he was at LFC. "He had no service. His teammates are to blame." The truth is that Fernando Torres has made a career out of being as utterly a one dimensional footballer as they come. A great goalscorer on his day, but no ability to hold the ball up and, unless there is plenty of movement ahead of and around him, struggles to do anything with the ball other than shooting.
As for the jibe about Carroll being expensive, the situations aren't comparable. Carroll is 22 years old, meaning he has five or six years before he hits his peak. Torres is 27, and has been playing regular first team football since he was 17. He is fading as a force, a deterioration that started years ago with all the injuries and will very quickly see him depreciate in value, as well as form. You should have bought Aguero, because building a team for the future based around Torres will turn out to be one incredibly short-lived affair.
Oh I would have loved if we could have gotten Aguero. And I still would prefer Drogba to start than any other striker but doesn't make Torres a bad player. He still has class. He just needs to find the mental strength to show it again.
