Seriously horse racing is fucking awesome. Not just from the gambling side of things, but it's such an emotional event. It's hard not to really get into a 3 minute race when you backed a horse, cheering them on as they come up the home straight. And even if you didn't back a horse, it's great when it's a big race and it's a crowd favourite and how everyone goes wild when it wins.
And don't get me started on how awesome the Grand National is.
Truly is the sport of kings as they say.
It's certainly more watchable than baseball.
Anything is more watchable than baseball.
I saw this thing on this TV show once. The guys were horse racing in a private track with like 10 guys, and one of the jockeys fell off and the horse fell on top of him and the guy passed away in the hospital.
ANYWHO
Yeah there are a fair few injuries, usually the horses that get hurt, even have to be put down when they break their legs from falls :(
I think it's funny how the horses look so bored and apathetic to the fact that there are two bipeds sitting on top of them, making them run for some reason.
The thing is, people campaign against horse racing but the horses do actually enjoy it. Sure the whip isn't exactly great, but they are soft padded now. The horses do love the running, the jumping, the winning.
you just like anything to do with riding horses...

Last year's Kentucky Derby was good, other than that there is waaaay too much pagentry for an event so short.

Well, besides, the life they are living as a race horse is probably pretty damn good compared to many others they could have.

This is true. And damn fine racehorses don't get turned into dog food when they die :( Plus once they retire them, they can become studs, so just spend the rest of their lifes fucking other horses.

Oh god, this sport is like Crochet, or polo. A ridiculous sport in reality, that is based upon the gambling woes of individuals. I'd much rather any organized sport, then this one. Hell I can name off a few: basketball, football, soccer, hockey, curling(lol curling). And the list goes on.

I read your point, I just disregarded it. I find it hard to believe that you can go down to a three minute horse race, and be excited on your own accord, and not just because everyone else is yelling and screaming.

horses are gay as fuukkkk
although I do know somebody who is a jocky - he used to go to my primary school (same year and all that). Of course, he is very short, but he's now a jocky which is cool. My family have promised him that we'll watch him race one day.
