Played a lot of catapult games

And by far this is my favourite. The story was cute and the design was adorable and impressive. I had a lot of fun playing this game.

Frustration is the correct word

This reminds me of the old days of gaming when there was no such thing as a save point. Usually though those games still offered you a little aid in the form of health which is something that I would like to see in this game. Perhaps give the user 3 tries, if they fail then yes game over, start again from the beginning.

I've read people saying about checkpoints and you believe that to be a 'pussy' idea which is a fair enough comment I suppose, which is why I think a health or attempt allowance would make this game better - without making it 'pussifed'.

Because while there is nothing wrong with having hard games at all, it's just really frustating having the one chance and then blowing it and then because you're annoyed at yourself you ruin the next couple of times you play it. Then you leave the game for a bit just because you're too annoyed to play it and then you go back and you've forgotten the timing ways so mess up quicker again. It's like a cycle of frustation.

The game concept is great though. It's simple yet fun. The animation is cute and decent. The game just lacks with your impossibly difficult hard setting you have and it's no surprise that no one has completed it yet.

Games are meant to be beatable. I imagine beating this would take a hell of a lot of time, luck and sheer foolishness to attempt it for so long. That's not fun for the gamer.

This is a really helpfull review.... yea looking back at it we maybe should've added some lives of some sort. Adding them now however would make the people who've made a great score without those look less cool :P.

Hmmm....

Yes, next game jam we'll make a game a player is more likely to beat :3.

Very very creepy

And that is a good thing!

I loved the first Gretel and Hansel so much and I'm happy to see you IMPROVED on it and made the sequel longer, creepier, harder and much more inventive.

The story was great. I loved the use of the glasses to tell the story of how Emma died. It was beautifully tragic. The cooking tree section? Deadly eerie. I wasn't sure what was going on there and I don't think I want to find that! That is great story telling for you.

The art as before has the pretty fairytale feel which works so well with this piece. It's swet, almost innocent, yet the game really is not, and I love that fact.

Another thing you got right was the use of music. It's a very important feature and it added so much to the drama (like the cooking tree, across the swamp, the emma story, etc). You got it spot on. So superb music from Jess Cron. Job well done.

I can't wait ALREADY for part 3 (and I still got more medals to collect for this one!). I'm sure you guys will do what you did here and improve once again.

Congratulations on a job well done.

The best game on NG

Well as an RPG lover, this could be a bit of a bias reaction, but truly this game is amazing. You cannot really ask for more from this type of game. It has everything. The sidequests are brilliant, the minigames offer a fun respite from the main game, and the main game? Well brilliant.

The skills section was probably my favourite non storyline part of the game. I must have spent ages so far thinking what I need next and watching with delight as my attack points for certain moves jump up higher. I loved the costumes/armous. Of course the female ones were brilliant. I look forward to more in future.

I just hope other EBF games will continue this free roaming route because you clearly know what you're doing here.

Thank you for the perfect game.

A bit disappointed

First off, I want to say that the game isn't bad at all, but considering the first two games, I am disappointed to the direction it has gone.

I understand that since the first game we've been clueless to what is happening - It was all; Alice is dead, your character has no idea who he is, the Rabbit must be killed. Then added to the cluelessness we have this great creepy environment with the great music choice and the eeriness grew as we searched for the briefcase numbers and were made to read the chilling messages on the room (which was genius btw). Then shock the end, we discover that we are the rabbit. Great first episode in the series.

Then onto 2 which actually added to the creepiness with the gore and the fantastically done Hatter character. The puzzles were again interesting and the old song again added to the creepiness. The hole in the room was weird and almost spooky and there was the surprise at the end with how the rabbit killed Alice.

And now we come to number 3...

Don't get me wrong, the music was good (David Orr and Hania are fantastic), but it just didn't feel right for this series. It was missing the old style creepy songs from years gone past.

I really did enjoy the use of the phone and did have fun ringing the various different joke numbers but the whole text message system felt overdone. I wanted the rabbit to meet up with the Hatter again and find out just how mad he truly was.

I loathed the fact that the Queen character came out of no where. Sure, there was a backstory in the diary but even reading that got dull. I wanted to see the storyline unfold not just read it in the book. The Queen felt unimportant to me and I'm sure many other fans of the series. While I'm not entirely happy with the ending I feel it would have meant more if we knew of the Queen and his/her evilness beforehand. To have the drama built up a bit.

This 3rd game was a lot earlier too than the others. It didn't feel challenging at all, and for the first time since playing the series, I really felt I was going just from A to B to C back to B onto C then D then E back to D. It felt predictable almost.

The creepiness had dried up completely. In fact the most 'scary' part of the game was probably when the billboard flashed an image of that evil creature and that was that. No more mention of it. To be honest this almost felt like a completely different game. I didn't care about the Queen or Ann and both seemed to have somewhat important roles, the Queen especially.

Plus sides? Well the wonderful TomaMoto was excellent of course, the artwork was really nice, the music was good (even if it didn't feel right for the series here). Like I say it is a somewhat good game, just hasn't lived up the previous high standards.

It lacked the proper storyline and ending here really.

I can see why it's a nice twist to kill the rabbit and show Alice as really being alive (considering the series is called 'Alice Is Dead'), but after the poor execution of the rabbit, the ending after the ending just felt even more hollow and unreal. I was disappointed at the quick and seemingly unrealistic killing by someone who doesn't feel important to the series then you bring Alice back to kill them off too? And Alice is a red hair?!

Felt very very hollow.

Overall, it was a great series, just let down in the final installment. Still, I do look forward to more from you, I really really do. I just hope you don't fall prey to lazy storyline again or the need to give every part a twist - We don't always need twists, just give us a convincing finale next time please, it's all we need.

Thanks for the series more than anything. It's been a pleasure playing and enjoying them.

Really really enjoyable game

I've been playing this game for like three hours now. I started once, got to like 20 days and restarted so I could do better (which I have). I'm just addicted to it. The concept of the game is brilliant, simple yet genius.

For some reason my favourite part of the game is the cd slider, and how the little bars on it widen when you're nearing the amount you can have up to. It's cute but very effective things like that which help make the game work.

The medals are a joy to do. Not easy and not overbearingly hard too. Perfect balance. I enjoy the little newspaper hints/tips to the days, but wish there were more.

I'm already hopeful for a sequel, as this is an idea that could easily be improved and prolonged.

Also I'm top on the leaderboard for the moment :D Wonder how long that will last :(

Thanks for the nice review :)

I got this on my iphone!

Yeah I bought it a few weeks ago and I love just coming back to it and trying to find more of the elements. Think I got 120 on my iphone version so far. I look forward to finishing it. Nice to see it in flash version so to be honest I don't think it works in the same way really. I hope you keep making these apps for iphone. I know I'll be buying more.

Such a fun game

It reminds me of Newgrounds Rumble a lot, but it's just so much more fun. Don't get me wrong NG Rumble is a fantastic game but there is nothing like playing a fighting game where you actually find it funny when you accidently fall in a hole. The weapons are just hilarious as well, what with the extra detail for a few of them, like adding hats when you pick them up.

I guess the game could have done with a few more different characters to choose from at the beginning, but it didn't matter much as I'm sure, most people like me used an NG character the moment they unlocked one =P

The deathmatches? Brilliant. I just can't stop laughing when I manage to blow up 2 of the characters and when I end up falling down a hole as I get swept backwards. Brilliant.

Fantastic old school type school!

I seriously have felt like I've stepped back in time playing this but in a really really good wat. The graphics are great for a same not focusing on that part and it's a really intelligent game. I'm struggling at the moment on like the 11th map and it's frustrating, but more rewarding then just bashing the keyboard to get to the end level. Can't wait for more!

I came several times while looking through this

A good improvement from the original Awards flash by the other guy. Great layout and decent music choice. Very sexy indeed.
